Natural Toenail Fungus Treatments + Cures

Toenail Fungus problems are typical on both the fingers and the toes. Toenail fungus is induced by a certain type of fungus which is called dermatophytes. The reason these fungus is harmful is because while they grow, they eat the substance that makes up most of the top of the nail.

The toes that are more prone to be damaged are the big toe and the little toe. Toenail fungus can cause altering of the toenail and cause the nails to turn yellow or brown. It's a disease that spreads easily and in a few cases it might be hereditary. The second you see any symptoms of fungus you should follow home cures that will help to cure even the worst cases of toenail fungus before it can spreads. Remember it is contagious, so the sooner you treat it the better.

There are a few different natural remedies for toenail fungus, the first is tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is a very strong natural antiseptic, and will assist in fighting your fungus. Apply the tea tree oil with a touch of olive oil to a cotton ball, then rub on the damaged toenail. Do this two times a day, once in the morning and right before going to bed, and do this until the fungus is gone.

The next remedy is Listerine mouthwash, and this is ideal since almost all homes will have this mouthwash. You'll want to soak your toes in the Listerine. The high antiseptic levels will leave your toenails appearing healthy. Soak the damaged toenail/s in Listerine for approximately 20 minutes twice daily. The antiseptic in the Listerine will assist in killing the fungus.

Apple cider vinegar is wonderful for helping fight toenail fungus. Soak your toenails 20 minutes in warm water mixed with apple cider vinegar, you should mix them in the same proportion. When done, be sure to dry your toenails completely. Regular vinegar is another popular use in fighting fungus infections. First mix warm water and vinegar together, any vinegar will do the job, except apple cider seems to be better at fighting the fungus. Soak your toenails in this the mix for approximately 20 minutes. Be sure to dry your foot after use. Do this until symptoms are gone.

Rubbing Alcohol is easily accessible at just about any pharmacy. Soak the damaged toenail/s in rubbing liquor for approximately 20 minutes a couple times daily, once in the morning and once right before going to bed. As always make sure you dry your foot off well.

Vicks Vaporub is one thing that hasn't been proven for treatment of toenail fungus, but a lot of people have discovered that when using Vicks on the damaged toenail/s, it has tended to help fight the fungus. Vicks is sometimes known to halt the growth of the fungus, not to kill it off completely. You should only really try using this if other options don't work for you, or try using this in combination with other treatments.
